Everyone has
those amazing summer nights in their life that they will always remember. I might be exaggerating a little bit, but
I believe I have had the best summer night thus far in my life. Let me take you back to night where the
chocolate was sensational, the company was amazing, and where the night ended
with a proposal.
The
summer night began like no other in the fact that I was blazing hot! My boyfriend of ten months, Dustin Hansen,
had informed me earlier that evening that we had plans and as always it was a
surprise. He requested I wear long
pants, boots (cute ones of course), a jacket, and gloves. I thought he was joking or at least a little
crazy. It was a summer night of ninety
plus degrees outside! To my horror he
was not joking. After much coaxing I
finally succumbed to his request. Upon
stepping out my front door I realized we would not be riding in an air
conditioned car but on his motorcycle. I
love motorcycle rides, don’t get me wrong, but when I’m completely exposed to
the blazing heat, wearing winter gear, in the middle of summer I have no desire
to ride a motorcycle. I admit I started
to question my darling boyfriend’s sanity.
At first the ride was as I had suspected, hot! After a few minutes of leaving my house in
South Jordan I found myself riding higher and higher up the mountains in Draper
and finally ended up on the windy path labeled “Alpine Loop”. It was gorgeous, breathtaking, and too my
surprise a bit chilly. I had to swallow
my pride, which tasted like vinegar, and admit I was glad he had me dressed for
cooler weather. As I had never been on
the Alpine Loop in my five years of living in Utah I had absolutely no idea
where I was and was even more surprised when I found us pulling up to Sundance
Resort.
I love the outdoors and I especially love
the Country Chic feel of Sundance Resort.
I followed Dustin inside to find that we had dinner reservations at the
Foundry Grill! Dustin prides himself on
keeping all of our dates a secret. It is
something I have come to love and hate.
I hate the anticipation but I do love the surprises. My first impression of the Foundry Grill was
that it was very awe inspiring and classy.
The ambience was amazing and the company even better. Then our food came and I could not have been
more disappointed! My chicken that I had
added to my linguine tasted like cardboard and the ribs were cold. Over priced food is not really my thing so I
gave the restaurant a rating of 6 out of 10.
As
Dustin and I left the restaurant I was thinking we were just going to cruise
back to my house on the motorcycle.
Dustin stopped at the little café situated right next to the foundry
grill. I looked over the menu and
instantly wished we had eaten at the café instead as their menu featured
grilled cheese sandwiches and turkey wraps.
Dustin ordered their specialty chocolates and a cup of hot cocoa. This boy knows me too well. I am a choc-a-holic all year round. We grabbed our chocolates and were off on a
leisurely stroll down a path which led through the cutest boutique, over a
bridge, through a beautiful garden and out to the Sundance Ski lift. This particular night was a special night for
the Sundance Resort as Sundance offers romantic moonlit rides on nights of the
full moon. I was beyond ecstatic! I am a sap for anything romantic and where I
get to spend one on one time with my cute boyfriend. We snapped a few photos before getting on the
lift and then we were off sailing above the ground. We snuggled up, sipped our hot cocoa, and
munched on our gourmet chocolates while catching glimpses of the play “seven
brides for seven brothers” which was going on below us. As we neared the top of the lift ride Dustin
asked the attendant if we could get off and walk around. The attendant was very nice but said we
couldn’t get off and walk around. We
were both bummed as we wanted to watch the moon come up all the way at the top
of the mountain. Dustin said we would
just pull off on the alpine loop somewhere to watch the moon come all the way
up. Sadly our lift ride came to an end
but we were excited to catch the moon coming all the way up, so we raced down
to the parking lot, hopped on our motorcycle, and once again we were off.
Shortly
after getting back on the Alpine Loop we pulled off at a campground area. We laid out a blanket to watch the stars and
the moon. For some reason Dustin wouldn’t let me sit down on the blanket though. I thought it was a little strange at first
but after a few minutes of him pointing out star constellations I figured he
just really wanted to show off his intelligence about our galaxy. Dustin started telling me how much he loved
me over and over again and then out of nowhere he dropped to one knee and asked
me to marry him! I screamed, kissed him,
and sputtered out “yes”! I was engaged
to my best friend at last.
I
went to bed that night with a smile plastered on my face. The best night of my summer has been the
night my best friend proposed to me. And
the best day of the fall will be the day I marry my best friend for eternity.
So so cute babe! I am so excited and so happy for you!!! Love ya
